How to identify the size of device for the cooling towers

(The capacity is from small to W15)

The capacity of cooling towers

  • 1. Cooling tower of the existing system
    e.g. 300 RT (JRA) is described on the plate
    300 RT x 13 L/min (Standard circulation quantity per RT)
    13 RT is the basic figure for the circulation quantity
    3900L/min : the supposed total quantity of circulating water/min = 3900L/min
  • 2. Cooling tower of the new system
    e.g. 400 RT (JRA) is described on the plate
    400 RT x 13 L/min (Standard circulation quantity per RT)
    13 RT is the basic figure for the circulation quantity
    5200L/min : the supposed total quantity of circulating water/min
  • 3. Total quantity of the circulating water
    The total quantity of the circulating water can be counted as follows.
    The capacity of the cooling tower (In RT unit) x 13L/min (standard circulation quantity per RT)
    In the above example:
    e.g. The capacity of the cooling tower is 300RT+400RT=700RT(total)
    (700 x 13 = 9100L/min (approx. 546 m3/hr) is the total quantity of the circulating water)
  • 4. How to decide the size of device for the recirculation water
    The water flow capacity of the device for the cooling tower should be decided as follows:
    The quantity of water within circulation x 5% (The total recirculating water need not to be go through the device)
    "LTI W-15 model" (max. flow of the models currently available) can permeate max 1.25 m3/min.

* Note: For the circulation quantity ...... M3/hour is more common unit

The total quantity of circulating water/13L/min x 60 x RT
In the above example: 700 x 13 x 60 = 546.000L/hour.

HOW TO DO THE TRIAL

How to do the trials :

The trial for the cooling tower can be conducted as per attached drawing (see above).

With the installation of the device, water in the tank can be recirculated going through the device and scale issues etc. Please note that the total chemical process regarding water cooling should be stopped and cleaning the existing tank is required so be changed so life that can be accepted by your customer's works.

Recommended models for each capacity of the cooling tower :

For less than 1000RT per the capacity, W15 model should be recommended for the pilot.

Between over 2000RT-?? and 4000RT-??, ?? model should be recommended for the pilot.

For more than 5000RT-??, ?? model should be recommended for the pilot.

How to check the effects (A) :

If the cooling tower can be stopped for a while and the heat exchanger can be opened so see the heat exchanger before starting the trial and again open after 15 days, 30 days and 45 days and Check IF the heat exchanger is started to be cleaned.

How to check the effects (B) :

If the cooling tower cannot be stopped and you cannot see the inside of the heat exchanger, then the temperature difference can be checked for judging the effects of LTI device.

  • 1) Check the temperature difference between T-in and T-out, also between T3-in and T3-out before the installation of LTI device.
  • 2) Check the temperature difference between T1-in and T1-out, also between T3-in and T3-out after the installation and running of LTI device for 15, 30 and 45 days respectively.

Note: Compared with temperature difference between water temperature (T-in and T-out) at the heat exchanger, the temperature difference should be much wid.

Assuming the temperature difference mentioned above is to show the effects that the heat exchanger has been cleaned up and the existing scales have been removed.
